Position Purpose:


The Chief Engineer supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of resort equipment, tools, and facilities. They generally oversee the maintenance staff and may work in both an office setting and on the property, addressing HVAC, electrical and other types of issues. In addition to maintenance duties, these professionals may also work with contractors to coordinate renovations, remodeling projects and new construction.

  • Supervise engineering/maintenance department to maintain ongoing operations and property systems.
    • Support recruitment, hiring and development of staff
    • Schedule and manage to ensure operation needs are met through adequate staffing plans while managing budget
    • Supports team to solve problems, educates, mentors and coaches staff for training and development of skills
  • Directs engineering personnel in formulating plans, designs, cost estimates, and specifications for construction, maintenance, and grounds programs
  • Supervises operating budgets, compiling reports, forecasts to evaluate efficiency of engineering programs
  • Maintain effective storage and inventory of: spare parts, tools and service equipment in a neat and orderly manner
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors as needed for the effective and safe completion of maintenance and project work
  • Be able to educate and train Grounds and Maintenance staff. Provides equipment, evaluations or suggestions for scope of work to enhance building Facility and equipment
  • Lead safety training and development.  Comply with all client Health, Safety, and Environmental standards; provides required or necessary training on equipment
  • Respond in courteous, professional, and rapid manner in order to resolve guest and staff issues.
  • Responsible for providing weekly or monthly reports to ownership of all maintenance issues, and projects.
  • Performs regular inspections to ensure optimal conditions and safety protocols are met or exceeded
  • Effectively communicates with property department heads for all property operational needs or coordination of activities
  • Ensure the property is clean, orderly, well manicured and guest ready at all times.

Performs other duties as assigned

Provides regular and reliable attendance; must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of (5) years of maintenance experience and supervisory experience of building/hotel maintenance operation required
  • General knowledge of skilled trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. Advance knowledge or certifications in one of these areas required; CPO or other certifications, water management preferred

Success Factors:

  • Proven project management competency
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret general business journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints and equipment schematics
  • Understanding the operations of fire/life safety systems ( Device & Sprinkler)
  • Ability to effectively communicate to management and various audiences
  • Must be able to use personal computers, MS Office (Word & Excel)
  • Can translate complex or technical issues into clear and defined actions plans
  • High regard for safety and regularly provides risk analysis of operations
